Yesterday, I cleaned out the top shelf in the clothes cupboard and what did I find? My handbag collection. The amalgamation of chintzy, quirky and colourful bags that were once my pride and joy. How were they? Sad, dusty and confused! What had happened? My life had changed. No longer have I the time -or indeed the courage- to leave the house with a new bag. Two little girls under two have replaced these treasures. Don’t get me wrong. They are worth a million bags! However, those dusty remnants of the past made me sad. These days, although they are the wonder years, have more than momentary times of frustration and fear. Yes, I admit it. I long for dressing up, coffee shops and lazy days. I know they will return. I also feel selfish admitting it. My little girls are so beautiful. Yet, there are days I feel like a lost nomad. Chest infections, shallow hips, reflux and the unknown all play their part in bringing on the dark moods. So I need to take action. This blog is a plan. A place where I can wander, chat and think. For the moment.Just while the creche run, Peppa Pig and nappies are my lord and master. For a little while, whenever I can, I will become Fancy Paper and delve into an indulgent world where I can find the person inside the Mammy!
Come join the journey! It is not all doom and gloom as laughs are part of my excerise in happiness.
Ah, memories of a past life. I remember playing dress up with my mother’s fancy dance clothes, shoes and purses. We had great imaginations and loved doing this. Perhaps your little ones will discover the pleasures and treasures inside your old purses. I admire your tenacity to take time to blog. It is sometimes difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel when so much time is spent with the little ones. Just don’t blink though for they grow so very, very quickly. Before you know it, they are finished with school and have moved out of the house as young adults. Keep the faith!

Thank you! I blog in the middle of the night mostly!! We are all great really. A spell of bad weather brought down the mood and that’s when I began to blog. I find it is a super unwind when you aren’t as free to go whenever you wish! You are right about the handbags. My eldest is already pretending to play dress up!

“Peppa Pig and nappies are my lord and master” I know exactly how you mean. My daughter is four and those days are way behind us; but I’m so happy to have found you here and hope to drop by often! Take care!

I love your Sligo holiday post and photos – reminds me of a holiday we had there years ago. We’ve really enjoyed travelling all round Ireland, although now we mainly spend time in Dublin when we’re over.
Have a great weekend with your lovely family!

Hi, i have 2 kids a boy and a girl, my life is pretty much taken up with them. Very little time for me..I have loads of hats I no longer wear, they are stuffed away lonely in a box.. now I haven’t got time for wearing them all, one hat gets worn all the time.. I like your blog.

Thank you! I am currently feeling very beaten down by parenting but I also love it- such a different experience of life now. I empathise with having little time for self. I think I will very much enjoy your blog as you continue!

yes parenting is hard, im currently sat in my cold kitchen trying to motivate myself to go to morrisons for milk. My 7 year old is crying upstairs , the 5 year old is sat here quietly. If i take him to Morrisons, more stress for me but he will be happy.. but then my little girl will want to come… im sure you understand why A. I dont want to go and B. id rather go alone, but i know he could do with some time out right now… thanks for your nice words x

Yes. I am living that quandary! My smaller one is three today. The older (4) is devasted by every surprise the younger gets and tried to ban all singing.

We have ‘singers’ here too and a lot of competition over who owns various songs. June is busy in your house ☺
